Corona Island

About 20 kilometers southwest of Cartagena sits Corona Island, a private island in the Rosario Islands archipelago developed by the Corona beer brand and opened to the public after years as an invite-only retreat. It is one of the more design-forward properties in the area, built around eco-friendly, boat-shaped bungalows and a stated commitment to operating without single-use plastics.

Accommodations consist of ten waterfront bungalows, each with its own jacuzzi and positioned to catch the sunset, alongside restaurant, sun-club, and rooftop spaces for day visitors. The rest of the island is left largely wild — pristine beach, dense forest, and a turtle zone that is also home to titi monkeys, parrots, and macaws.

Days on the island run toward wellness and light adventure: yoga, stand-up paddleboarding, kayaking, and coral-restoration snorkeling trips, plus mangrove-planting initiatives tied to the island’s ecological focus. As the sun goes down, the mood shifts toward cocktails and DJ sets for guests staying into the evening.

Corona Island is reached by a roughly one-hour speedboat ride from the Cartagena Nautical Club, generally included in day-pass and overnight packages; both can be booked directly through the official site or via major platforms like Booking.com and Expedia, with the property’s own team reachable by phone or email to confirm details.

Corona Island is a strong fit for travelers drawn to a more considered, design-conscious island experience — somewhere between a wellness retreat and a beach day — rather than a high-energy party stop. Given its popularity and limited bungalow count, booking ahead is essential for an overnight stay.
